The Ontario Police Video Training Alliance is a
member-driven organization designed to meet the unique needs of Ontario's police training community. While we address a wide variety of topics, procedures and policies are presented in a "generic" manner.

An elected Chair (currently Sgt. Michael Knight of the Aylmer Police Service) represent members’ interests, and oversee meetings and all policy decisions, ensuring that the OPVTA truly meets the needs of its membership.

All programs are shot and edited by members of the Niagara Regional Police Video Unit, winners of over 150 major international awards for production excellence, most recently winning our 6th "Award of Distinction" at LEVA for "Foot Pursuit!" in November 2007.

The OPVTA is funded on a cost-recovery basis through annual membership fees, which are based on authorized strength. At present, annual membership fees range from $500 (1-49 sworn members) to $24,000 (1,500+ sworn members).

Topics for programs are solicited from member Services year-round, and production priorities are established at regular meetings.

The OPVTA is officially partnered with the Advanced Patrol Training (APT) Unit at the Ontario Police College. OPC subject experts assist with research, accompany production teams on location and prepare training packages and tests specific to each release, ensuring that all OPVTA programs and training packages are consistent with both Ontario Police College training and with Ministry of the Solicitor General policing standards. Additional resources from member Services also assist with each project to provide demographic balance.

Programs are released on DVD and are generally 10-12
minutes in length: perfect for viewing at shift briefings
or as part of facilitated classes.

OPVTA training packages and tests are distributed in data form, allowing member Services to edit for the inclusion of local policies, procedures and issues. Depending on the complexity of the topic, training packages generally run from 5-15 pages each. Tests are usually a minimum of 10 questions and consist of multiple choice, true/false and short answer

OPVTA programs proudly reflect the diversity of its membership. Programs feature the expertise, officers, citizens and locations from a variety of member jurisdictions.
